machineworksbjj.com is alive

the website is alive and kicking, it's still needs filling out as we are also still in the last stages of getting an actual address for the academy. in the meantime i will be updating the blog over there and no longer here. the url is machineworksbjj.com. you should go over check it out and sign up for the newsletter. there will be a period very soon when we send out the first newsletter announcing the opening of the academy and will also announce the prices and some deals for the guys who sign up at the beginning.

started the day with the normal tuesday morning class. assisted eduardo as he went over some very solid escapes from the having your back taken. then went on to my private lesson where i went over the full guard to take the back/ flip you over sweep/ the sneaky you recovered, no you got swept into mount series. then we talked about how to connect to the underhook series that i like to hit out of the full guard.

later i went back for the advanced class. hit the mats for 7x7 minute rounds of sparring. played more with the reverse de la riva hook to my under hook sweep to inverted triangle set up. tomorrow it's going to be more attacks from the back and how to defend those attacks.

my other goals are to work on some content for the website, to start filling it out and getting it ready for the anouncement of where the academy will be located. it's not much now but check out http://machineworksbjj.com/,

started the day with two privates. the first was with a newer student. he wanted some insight into the omoplata and some side control ideas. then i worked with mateo on side control transitions to mount, knee of belly, and to inverted triangle. we also played with a new way to take the back i've been playing around with. i was going to film some technique, just a quick deal, on underhook 101 from top half guard. right as we started the flip camera's batteries died. i'll try again soon.

new merch post

i'll be trying to update this blog with less merch related things and more technique or training related posts. for now let's talk about hoodies, specifically black ones that have 2 sided designs and are a thick 80 cotton/20 poly blend. they feel good and look better. buy one for yourself, buy one for your friend. the more you buy the nicer the walls mats at machine works jiu jitsu will be.

there are some details to work out and more forms to fill out, but the first steps have been accomplished. machine works jiu jitsu has thrown it's hat in the jiu jitsu academy ring. we will be located in san leandro just off of 880. the next step is to get the mat room cleaned up, painted and the mats down. once that's done, we'll be having some of you by to spar and check out the academy. once we're operational but not yet open, we'll start talking about schedules and prices. the guys/gals who sign up between the time we start opening the door for sparring sessions and when the official opening is, will get 10 dollars off a month for the first 3 months.

the shirts have arrived, so have the hoodies, but i'll talk about them later. the shirts are black, 2 sided, 100 percent cotton, the pics on the side show both front and back. from me in person they're 20, and through paypal they're 26(includes s&h)

the small patches have arrived, and they look better than i thought they would. they are 4 inches in diameter, fully embroidered with a thick hem and no backing making them easier to sew on. the price from me personally is 7 dollars, and the price through paypal is 8 dollars. this is the first of several items i'm getting in over the next few weeks.

just noticed as i was posting the new logo for machine works, that i haven't posted on here since january 28th. it's been a crazy long winding trip since then. in the 5 weeks after that post i only took one day off from my work, teaching, or training. several day's i hit two of those activities in one day and on occasion i would hit a combination of all three in one day. not much time left over for blogs or anything else. this last weekend i took the whole weekend off, and now am iback to the same schedule. i like it but i have to organize my time better to allow for more recovery and outside interests.

the teaching is going great. i've been able to teach almost everyday of the week in the mornings, the way my work schedule has been. that means 3-4 morning classes and 3-5 private one on one sessions a week. this in turn has given me a much better connection with not only how i teach but how i look at the moves i use when i spar or compete.

as i now have a logo, it's time to get back to blogging and soon i'll start shooting little videos of what i am working on and what i am teaching. as soon as i do, i will post them on my youtube channel and here. i'll also try and explain my training methods. now it's time to hit a nap.

hit the mats for the first time since eduardo came back from brazil. it was the first full on sparring session since i stopped working out/sparring 3 weeks before the surgery. so it had been about 7 weeks since i had a full on sparring session. sparred with a blue belt, a purple belt and then closed out the session with a decent white belt. sparred for just over an hour total. felt good, obviously rusty and my mat timing/conditioning needs work. the next month will be a process as i try and get ready for the sf international and get back to where i was before all the distractions reared their heads.

just got done with another getting back in shape workout. 4 rounds of 30 seconds on/15 seconds off(airdyne, burpees, windshield wipers, clean and presses(36 lb kettlebells), and one legged deadlifts with the same kettlebell.). did good, but need to be more consistent with the workouts. i want to get at least 3 sparring sessions next week.

Saturday, January 7, 2012

i am enjoying hitting the workouts again. can't wait til next week when i can start doing my normal workouts and not these abbreviated lighter ones. 20 calories on the airdyne, 10 clean and presses, 5 sets, no rest.

just hit the airdyne semi hard for the first time post surgery. good stuff. sucked wind too hard for my liking, but i'm always of the opinion that my cardio could be better. 10 rounds 0f 40 seconds on 20 off, keeping the rpm above 80 and shooting for 85 every round. the last two keeping it above 80 was very unpleasant.
